Over the thousands’of years of evolvement, the traditional Chinese culture has been deeply blended into the ideology and behavioral norms of Chinese nation, forming a source of national vitality. Against the background of economic globalization, culture faces the same fate. Encountered by the impact from western culture, traditional Chinese culture is being reviewed and undermined, which is apparently true for the adolescents who grow up in the new era. Since the teaching objectives and contents of history course is closely related to the traditional culture, it naturally embodies the responsibility to carry on the traditional culture. In view of the absence of traditional culture among middle school students, it’s undoubtedly that we should reinforce the education in this field at the middle school stage.On the basis of previous studies, the author takes Confucian culture—an essence of the traditional Chinese culture—as an example to discuss the importance of traditional culture in the teaching of high-school history course.This paper consists of five parts. The first part is an introduction. It mainly introduces the background, literature review and the objectives of this paper.The second part discusses the concept and its all-inclusive character of Chinese traditional culture, in other words the common cause which embodies the cultural value and concepts created by the Chinese nation within the territorial scope of China and continuously inherited by the descendants, during the period from the late clan society to the May4th Movement. What’s more, it discusses the close relation between the development process of traditional Chinese culture, from modern times to the present, and high school history teaching regarding the course nature, content and objectives.The third part takes the essence of traditional Chinese culture, Confucian Culture, as the key point. By analyzing the content of traditional Chinese culture in the high school history textbooks, the author manages to understand its importance in the history education for middles school, and introduces its value in historical data education, moral education, as well as the education pedagogy.The forth part discusses the effective ways and methods of teaching traditional culture in the history class in the middle school.the applicable teaching methods have been presented, such as using historical data, comparisons, etc., so as to optimize the teaching effect in class.Finally comes the conclusion part, the fourth part. Through the above analysis, the paper draws the conclusion that the traditional Chinese culture represented by the Confucian culture still has an important value and should remain a crucial part in high school history teaching. Therefore, the history teachers should employ appropriate teaching methods to increase the teaching effect in class,so as to have the students learn the traditional culture effectively and pass it on for inheritance and enrichment.
