The reform of Chinese textbook in primary and junior middle schools is thecentral problem of the entire Chinese education reform, especially in the backgroundof new curriculum reform. As important as it to be, the research and construction ofChinese textbook takes an important position more and more. When facing thesituation of more complex structure of textbook, straying away from its disciplinecharacteristic and schoolchildren’s cognition rules, this thesis makes the relativeanalysis of two textbooks: one is “Chinese”, edited by Cui Luan and Kuai fudi, published by People’s Education Publishing House; the other is “The EclecticReaders”, written by William H McGuffey, USA. The relative analysis includes twodifferent structures and features and so on. The thesis analyzes the status and valuesof the two textbooks respectively in each country to explain the purpose andsignificance of this relative analysis, comparing two different backgroundarrangement structures, two characteristics. At the end, we get some inspiration: ourChinese textbook in primary school can be diversified in structure and compilingconcepts, and can be increased in oral communication training. There is no one textbook which can meet all needs of students in any one county,so the propose of this thesis is not to prove which textbook is better, but to try to getsome inspirations from studying other country’s textbook in primary school, and to bea reference of out country’s textbook.
