The university is an important place for develop talent. It can provide intellectual support to economic development of society, and provide impetus to science and technology development. It is an important guarantee for the promotion of our national strength, technological, economic, and cultural development. In2005, the Ministry of Education clearly stated a reform way that "Actively promote research teaching, and improve the innovation ability of students in college" for universities. The idea of research teaching aimed at inspiring students’ subjective initiative and independent learning actively and fully, and applying learned professional knowledge to solve practical problems of scientific and reasonable, by creating an open and free teaching environment of higher education. It can encourage students generating active exploration desire for learned knowledge and practical problems, thus achieve the purpose of cultivating college students’ personal comprehensive ability and innovation spirit.As a manifestation of the research teaching concept in university, the academic competitions or technology race allows students to improve their research problem, find problem, and solve problem and other various ability in the participation. It is the interpretation of teaching objectives in teaching concept. It becomes an important platform to examine the application of professional knowledge for college students, and becomes an important way to improve students’ comprehensive quality and ability. Propelling the development of discipline competition is helpful to the spread and application of research teaching concept, and also can enrich the content of research teaching, thus can drive the development for the reform of college education effectively.This paper uses the discipline competition of college students as the research object. Firstly, this paper illustrates the basic connotation of research teaching and college students discipline competition, and analysis the complementary relationship between college students discipline competition and research teaching concept. As a way of practice teaching, the discipline competition can effectively promote the improvement of college students’ comprehensive ability by integrating the research teaching concept into college students discipline competition. Secondly, this paper deeply analysis the significance of organizing and participating the discipline competition. By comparing the middle school discipline competition and college discipline competition, this paper proposes that the college discipline competition is an appraisal of comprehensive capability, but not a special for "top students". Participating in the discipline competition is an effective way to improve college students’ practice ability, so more and more college students should be encouraged to participate in the discipline competition. This paper also researches the related factors. According to the research results, this paper analysis the problems and causes of current college students discipline competition from the student individual level, school level and other factors. Finally, by drawing lessons from foreign experience, this paper puts forward some development countermeasures and measures for the college students discipline competition for the purpose of improving the comprehensive ability of college students, including strengthening the college students’ awareness to participating discipline competition, creating good campus atmosphere of competition for science and technology, perfecting the incentive mechanism of discipline competition, etc. These can provide valuable references for prompting the college students to participate in the research, cultivating their scientific research consciousness and improving their innovation ability and comprehensive capacity.
