Junior high school education is the end of compulsory education. At the time of graduation, many junior high school students need to choose whether to enter a senior high school or find a job, both of which involve an issue of occupation. However, since they received insufficient education of this kind in the stage of elementary school and junior high school, they do not have enough occupational quality or enough ability of occupational choice. Objective reality tells us that the career planning education to junior high school students is very important and necessary.The main contents of this research include:First, the introduction provides an overview of the purpose and content of the paper, and defines related concepts in the research; next explains the origin and significance of the study, and investigates on the recent inadequate research and the novelty of this article through literature review; finally, sets out the ideas and research methods of this paper. Second, an analysis is conducted from the theoretical perspective, and the initial model of career planning education is set up, namely:we should develop career planning education in all aspects from policies to courses and teachers and education funding. Third, from the perspective of practice, an investigation is conducted into the status quo of the career planning education offered by junior high schools in G District of Nanjing. Relevant analysis is conducted according to the investigation result. Some key factors that influence the development of career planning education are found out. Fourth, several countermeasures are put forward against the career planning education to junior high school students in G District of Nanjing.This research involves a questionnaire investigation conducted into several junior high schools in G District of Nanjing, and the following conclusions are drawn by analyzing the data obtained from the investigation:First, a person can form his/her career planning awareness through a long-term accumulation of education and self-study. However, this kind of education is absent in kindergartens and elementary schools. Therefore, it is very important for junior high schools to offer career planning education to students. Second, junior high school students are quite short of career planning awareness and ability, which chiefly originates from the ignorance of junior high schools to career planning education, and reflects the backwardness of Chinese basic education. Third, the backwardness of Chinese career planning education is caused by such factors as policy deficiency, insufficient attention from leaders, shortage of funds and resources, absence of course contents, course management and lack of teachers. Therefore, in order to change this status quo, Chinese government should try to solve this problem by adopting various reform measures and carrying out comprehensive research and systematic reform.
