Textbook is the carrier of curriculum. The comparison of Chinese textbooks and other language textbooks will contribute to our understanding of local Chinese textbooks and will be helpful to absorbing the advantages of foreign language textbooks. Through comparing between China and Australia in the typical high school first language textbooks, we can exactly know the similarities and differences between the two kinds of textbooks. After comparison, we analysis these textbooks in order to find some measures to promote the construction of high school Chinese Textbooks. Besides, we expect that these measures will be helpful to the revision and usage of Chinese textbooks published by JiangSu Education Press, and we also expect to have positive effect on the Chinese curriculum reform.The paper falls into three parts, including the Introduction, Body and Conclusion. The body part is composed of three chapters. In these chapters, we gain some enlightenment from comparing the two kinds of textbooks from three angles which are writing ideas, writing styles and text system. The first chapter expounds the compiling concept of Chinese textbooks published by JiangSu Education Press, and makes a brief introduction of the education system in Australia. Besides, this chapter expounds the compiling concept of the New South Wales high school English textbook philosophy. Besides on the analysis, we do some comparison between the two kinds of textbooks. The second chapter explains the writing characteristics of Chinese textbooks published by JiangSu Education Press, and describe the written form of the current New South Wales high school English textbooks. By comparison, we provide the development thoughts of Chinese textbooks. The third chapter compares Chinese textbooks published by JiangSu Education Press and the current high school English textbooks in New South Wales on text system. From the comparison, we find some similarities and differences between two sets of first language teaching material, and address some suggestions.
