Research On Present Situation And Countermeasures Of Professional Ability Of College Counselors

It is college counselors who are mainly responsible for the ideological and political education and management of college students. In order to set up a counselors team, many related policies have been made by the state and lots of studies have been done by experts and scholars. However, the current situations of professional competence of college counselors are not yet consistent with the expectation of experts and scholars.In this paper, the document of "Standards of professional competence of college counselors in colleges and universities (Provisional)" introduced by Ministry of Education in March 2014, was accepted as the policy basis, focusing on the study of how to improve the professional competence of college counselors. The concept of professional competence of college counselors is defined at the beginning. And then according to relevant policy documents, nine aspects of professional competence of college counselors are analyzed from ideological and political education, construction of caucus and class, academic guidance, daily affairs management, mental health education, online ideological and political education, crisis response, career planning and employment guidance, to theoretical and practical study.On the basis of established research structure and ideas, questionnaires,interviews, literature and other means were used to investigate the current situations, reasons and subjects (gender, work experience, administrative level, number of students, specialized field, training hours, and published papers) of professional competence of counselors.According to this study and literature analysis, it was suggested that low professional ability and unclear overall orientation were the main problems concerning professional competence of college counselors. And the main reasons included biased entry requirements, non-standard training system, icomprehensive evaluation guide, inaccurate role and duties forgotten, weak sense of self-improvement and weak role of counslor training bases, and so on.Finally, under the concept of lifelong education and people-oriented, we come up with six optimization strategies to improve professional competence of college counselors:First, to elect strictly and face up to the entry requirements; Second, to set up the platform of training, communication, research and practice, work boot; Third, to improve the evaluation mechanism; Fourth, to understand professional role of counsloers correctly; Fifth, to strengthen the concept of lifelong learning and self-improvement; Sixth, to fully play the role of counselor training bases.
