Illustrations as a second language of a textbook, are an important component of the textbooks. In the moral textbook of grade seven, illustrations are widely distributed-----171 illustrations. They are not only colorful but also have diverse types. The students of grade seven’s logic thinking is still in its initial stage.Therefore, the colorful and vivid images in illustrations sparked the interest of students. But affected by the traditional concepts, illustrations are often neglected both in theory research and in teaching practice.Through the analysis of the two volumes of moral textbooks,combining with the characteristics of moral discipline,the illustrations in the textbooks can be devided into the following categories from different perspectives:black and white or color chart, a single figure or with more figures, cartoon figure, reality figure or statistics charts, positive leading figure, negative warning figure or value neutrality picture, the picture about life world of children or of adults. And analyzed the characteristics and functions of different types of illustrations. At the same time of textbook illustrations for text analysis, through the interview and questionnaire survey about teachers and students, it has been confirmed that there are some problems existing in use of the illustrations caused by teachers’ lack of in-depth analysis and students’lack of rational thinking. On this basis, the author puts forward some suggestions, one is about the textbook illustrations improved, the second is about the teachers and students’ application of the illustrations in the textbooks.In particular, have the following several aspects:Paying attention to students’ life, taking the students as the main body of moral education, paying grate attention to the feedback between teachers and students, enhancing the professional quality of textbook publishing. On the other hand, the teachers should study curriculum standard to understand the illustrations connotation correctly and deeply. In the teaching process they can provide effective guidance to students to help they read illustrations. The study is from the micro perspective, designed to help in teaching practice.
