Positive psychology is a significant portion of psychology originated from the United States at the end of the 20th century, and has prosperously developed into an increasingly attractive field in the 21st century with American psychologists such as Martin Seligman. As one of two latest progresses in contemporary psychology, positive psychology reverses and compensates the preference to negative value orientation in traditional psychology, by focusing on people’s own potential and good quality and committing to happier lives and better developments for human beings. Psychology research therefore starts to change from the field related to psychological illness to the domain caring more about human education, grow, love, and intelligence.Psychological mental health education in China is the indispensably important content in modern school education, acting as an important part of the basic education curriculum system. Currently, forming the model of positive psychological health education, which is guided by the concept of positive psychology and applied in the domain of practical education, has been a new thought and leading trend in the field of psychological health education, where the setting of courses of positive psychological mental health education at school has played a significant role in improving the psychological health of students at different ages, promoting the sense of happiness and advocating the education for all-round development.Under the guidance of the concept of positive psychology in the school mental health education, it is better for schools to carry out mental health education and has important and far reaching significance. The writer attempts to systematically discuss the theory and recent research results of positive psychology, summarizes the specific application and related basic researches in area of western school mental health education. And finally put forward the research trend of positive mental health education, conclusion and illumination. Positive mental health education in China has a late start, and its theoretical researches and practical explorations develop in the primary stage, which needs to be based on the international field of vision. However, there exist differences between China and foreign culture, so it needs to pay attention to learn the transformation of local essence from the broad and profound ancient traditional culture at the same time, construct the localization of mental health education model. In general, education practice and empirical studies on the cultivation of students’ positive psychological quality has still a long way to go, but the future is always positive, to improve the psychological health education work is still developing the inexhaustible driving force of progress.
