In recent years, with the increasing demand of high educational talents in the field of professional and practical, Doctor of Education emerges as the times require, the research of training Doctor of Education has gradually become the hot issues concerned about higher education. The United States is the first country that has granted Doctor of Education. It has nurtured a large number of inter-disciplinary talents in the field of education, teaching and education management for American educational institu tions and colleges that improved the quality of American higher education personnel training.Based on combing the evolving process of American Doctor of Education from the historical perspective, I explored the development motivation, and analyzed the training process of American Doctor of Education from the aspects of training objectives, admission requirements, curriculum, tutors, teaching and practice, graduation thesis. Then I selected the famous American University——University of Pennsylvania as a case, concretely expounded the implementation of American Doctor of Education training process, summarized the achievements and problems. In the end, I put up the characteristics of American Doctor of Education in the cultivation of target, enrollment object, curriculum structure and learning style, and put forward the countermeasures and suggestions for the cultivation of Chinese Doctor of Education.
