Vocational High School Students Language Ability

Vocational high school (VHS for short) is the training center and cradle fortechnicians and skilled workers. It differs from general vocational training in that itstresses not only the technical skills, but also the cultural nursing. Chinese is the coreof the cultural course for VHS students. Therefore, it is of great significance toresearch on the Chinese ability of the VHS students.Chinese ability refers to the phychological features, deriving from one抯linguistic and cultural bearings, which would influence one?s activities such asworking, living and so on. Specificly, Chinese ability refers to one抯 ability oflistening.. speaking.. reading and writing. Chinese ability constitution refers to thestructural proportion and inter relationship between the four abilities.Because VHS and general high school have different training goals anddeveloping orientations. Chinese ability constitution of VHS students should differfrom that of general high school students.According to our questionaire poll research,the society needs and cares for the student抯 speaking and writing ability (SWA forshort)most. Students are longing to improve their abilities in these two aspects moreeagerly than in other aspects. From both the students and the society, we are informedthat SWA are much more needed than reading and listening abilities. In this sense,SWA is the key aspect in the Chinese ability constitution of the VHS students.Therefore this paper puts forward a new teaching methodology, that is , to stimulateand enhance the listening and writing abilities by emphasizing SWA. In other words,we attempt to impel the students?voluntary input by stressing output.Based on the research , this thesis also studies the syllabus design, textbookdesign, and testing system, in the hope of providing a new thought for the VHSChinese teaching reform.
