In the past decade, the three problems about countryside,agriculture and farmers have been the most important task of the CPC Central Committee.At the first year of the"Twelfth Five Years Plan", promoting agricultural modernization, accelerating the building of new socialist countryside was included in the CPC Central Committee's "Twelfth Five-Year " plan。In order to develop agriculture and countryside, we need to focus on developing rural human resources, training a large number of people to master advanced technology. In the training process, secondary vocational education in rural areas plays an irreplaceable role. But at this stage, the importance of secondary vocational education in rural areas has not yet been fully realized, the situation of secondary vocational schools in rural areas is not optimistic as well as student employment. These problems seriously restrict the development of rural secondary vocational school.This paper studies the training of rural secondary school students' vocational ability as the entry point,. The first part of this paper discusses the origin of research and review related research achievements at home and abroad .The second part of paper expounds the necessity of cultivating vocational ability for rural secondary vocational school students, then it puts forward that rural secondary vocational school students should obtain three vocational ability modules, vocational ability, methodological ability and social ability. On the basis of the investigation results from a county in the rural areas vocational schools,the third part of the paper in-depth analyses the existing problems of ability training from rural secondary vocational school's students. Problems include five aspects: improper major and curriculum, obsolete course content and teaching methods, insufficient funds and equipment, weak in training forces, imperfected evaluation and management system. Part four detailed analyses the restrictive factors of rural secondary school vocational ability cultivation from community , school, teacher and student. Combining the actual condition of local rural secondary vocational schools, the fifth part of the paper puts forward some targeted education suggestions. First, clear and definite the training target of rural secondary vocational school, set up majors according to the social needs;second, take various school-running modes based on the regional economic development;Third, construct the training vocational ability as the core of the teaching system;fourth, ,accelerate construction teachers team with "two-qualification" ;fifth, strengthen career planning guidance for rural secondary vocational school students. Finally, increase investment, improve school hardware conditions. The last part of this paper states main research results, innovations, problems and the prospects for future study.
