Nowadays chem-istry teaching is put into an important status in high school teaching course.With the development of the science and technology, more and more knowl-edge and information are produced swiftly, however, the limited space andtime has hold back the school teaching which urge us to reform our currentchemistry curriculum to meet the demand of valuable teaching result.There is not much concrete research on the exercise design in the currentchemistry curriculum and teaching material. Much blank research field hasbeen left for the research on the exercise itself because current research mainlyfocus on the "Skill to solve the exercise to ease the pressure of the examina-tion.Document comparing method and investigation method are applied in thisarticle to research on the function and compilation of high school chemistryexercise. It includes five parts as such:1. Specific theory foundations are put forward to define the function ofexercise and direct the compilation of exercise including general knowledgeclassification and study-and-learn knowledge classification (Gagne, R. M).Knowledge of chemistry subject , skill for test , test orignal question of howto develop the student' s intelligence begin to switch to the question of how toefficiently render them know the way to learn the knowledge of differenttype.. Thus the functions of exercise can break through the original narrationof knowledge and make more expansion. The compilation of exercise becomesmore operative for these theory foundations.2.Based on the deep research on the tendency of Chinese current cur-riculum reform and value orientation of subject teaching, with plentiful of in-vestigation and analysis, the author points out the weak area of current highschool chemistry teaching books and exercise reform process and gives somevaluable advice.3.Try to provide the valuable method and means for reference after theresearch on the nationwide high school teaching books.4.According to the general knowledge classification theory, the functionof exercise is extended to the three function as such: function of teaching val-ue-oriented, function of transmit and activate the knowledge, function offeedback and experience. The principle of exercise compilation will be accordto its function into a harmony. The principle of exercise compilation can bestated as follow: the principle of value union, the principle of system, princi-ple of convenient study and principle of inspiring.5.Case design of exercise compilation based on the knowledge classifica-tion should be made under the direction of expanded function of exercise andprinciples of compilation.
