People have focused attention on the application of English, primarily owing to the trend of more chances of global education communication and internationalization of education. It is very useful for people to have both professional English knowledge and abilities of its application. In order to improve students' quality and abilities, bilingual courses are given in many universities and middle schools.However, the practice of bilingual teaching carries out not so well for the lack of bilingual teachers. In the research, we intend to develop bilingual skills for chemistry teachers through the training. We make detailed teaching designs, systematic study, and then put the designs into the practice in Nanjing normal university and Nanjing No. 3 middle school. After two years study and practice, we have got anticipated achievements.This paper consists of six parts.In the first part, the origin, definition and classification of bilingual education are introduced.The second part compares bilingual education in different countries, especially stresses on the situation and problems existed in our country.In the third part, the efforts are made in theoretical research of bilingual teaching design. It includes definition and theoretical basis. Besides these, the paper makes some studies in the composition of teaching design and brings out the flow chart which suggests the relationship among the elements of different composition.In the fourth part, the paper introduces the preparation of our bilingual teaching research and practice. As a teaching assistant, I learned much from the bilingual teaching curriculum "Inorganic Chemistry ".The bilingual teaching designs separately for normal university students and middle school students are forwarded in the fifth part, which include teaching objects, teaching strategy, teaching models and teaching evaluation.The last part introduces the practice of teaching designs since Sep. 2002 According to the results, students are improved greatly in many aspects. It can improve normal university students' bilingual skills and competitive abilities, and It can broaden the field of view middle school students' and realize quality education in the school.From all above, we can see the designs of chemistry bilingual teaching are forwarded and realized on the basis of theoretical and practical research.
