The sexual problem in textbooks has been concerned since 1940's in western countries. Researches have revealed by content analysis that focusing on man and belittling woman is the big problem of textbooks, which results in unequal education to women. Although plenty of suggestions were made about reformation, which were somewhat effective, researchers still believe that is not enough, and research must go further. Since late 1980's, Chinese researchers have analyzed some Chinese and English textbooks and the results are quite similar to the former. But neither the problem has been attached importance to, nor useful reformation suggestions have been put forth for long time.In recent years, there were researches revealed the Chinese textbooks of elementary school, which were published by People's Education Publishing House of China, are showing an obvious tendency to man. This paper is to study the sexualtendency of Chinese textbooks of Shanghai's elementary school-the S edition andthe H edition. In China, Shanghai's education is developed and it is the only city that has the right to edit textbooks. The textbooks now used were all published in 1990's.Is there a sexual tendency in these textbooks? What impacts will it bring to education? Why does it appear? How to eliminate it? These questions will all be discussed. Moreover, make some suggestions to the textbook editors is the main goal of the paper.This paper consists of four parts:The first part puts forward the question. It reviews the history of sexual research on textbooks home and abroad by documents analyzing, and on this basis, argues the importance of researching the sexual problem of Shanghai's Chinese textbooks under the circumstance of the new curriculum reformation.The second part is about the research design. It introduces the research objective and research methods, and based on the analyzing frame of former researchers, establishes a frame of analyzing of this paper.The third part is about the research result. According to the analyzing frame, it analyses the two editions and draws some conclusions.The fourth part is about considerations and suggestions. Based on the conclusions, it discusses the impacts to which the sexual tendency in textbooks brings the education, and analyses the cause of this tendency, and brings forward some suggestions of how to eliminate the tendency.
