Chinese teacher is facing a severe challenge at the turn of the century. The key to deepening the reform of Chinese teaching is teachers' quality, which consists of professional quality and educational quality. The latter includes educational theories, knowledge of educational theories, teaching capability and skills.Educational quality is the essential quality for a qualified teacher of Chinese, But it is an indisputable fact many teachers lack educational quality. The main causes of this phenomenon consist in the following: there are weaknesses in the curriculum for Chinese majors in teachers college; the subcultivation of teachers is formalist; there are problems in china's education systems; teachers of Chinese have their own shortcomings.To enhance the educational quality of teachers of Chinese is becoming an important and urgent task for our reformation in Chinese teaching. This paper offers some suggestions on how to achieve this goal : reforming the out-of-date educational patters; reforming Chinese teaching in teachers college; reforming the subcultivation of teachers; strengthening the combination of study, research and teaching; cultivating teacher's lofty ideal of profession.
