China has a long history of reading. At the end of the twentieth century, there is a discussion about Chinese teaching in the society. Most of the criticizing opinions have something done with Chinese reading teaching. Many famous Chinese educational experts acclaimed that the reformation of Chinese reading teaching should take the way of combining the modern educational theories with Chinese ancient traditional teaching experiences.Zhu Xi is a philosopher and educationalist of Song dynasty. He is the second peak on the ancient traditional teaching theory, only after Kong Zi. Most essences of the ancient traditional teaching theories can be found there. Many people have studied the great character from different directions, and made so many achievements.This paper attempts to do some in-depth analysis about the reading and reading teaching theories of Zhu Xi on the base of the former study accomplishments, in order to provide some theoretic basis and practicing reference for the new Chinese reading teaching reformation. Today, there is a tide about reading and Chinese reading teaching study. We should believe that the essences about reading and reading teaching of Zhu Xi and other ancient educationalists would play an important role in the new Chinese teaching reformation.
