China and Russia have maintained communications and exchanges for a long time. Since the foundation of People's Republic of China, China once learned from Russia in almost all aspects including the familiarity with its geographical curriculum and textbooks. But China is now lacking a current study on the status quo of the development of geographical teaching materials in Russia since the disassembly of Soviet Union. This essay aims to provide reference to the underway reform in geographical courses and compilation of geographical teaching materials through a comparative study on the different teaching materials of both countries.Based on a complete review of " " (our homestead-earth), a geographical teaching material for grade-seven students published by A (a Russian publishing company), this essay gives an intensive analysis and elaboration on the Russian geographical teaching material with focus on several aspects such as its curriculum, compilation, composition, content selection, expression and illustration and also compares with "Geography" for grade-seven students in China that is published by China People Education Publishing House according to "Geographical Courses Standard for Compulsory Education" in the above aspects. The comparison shows that Russia attaches greater importance to geographical education than China. In Russia the curriculum for grade 6-10 includes geographical curriculum with a diversified and competitive development in the publishing and compilation of the teaching materials. The " " published by Russia consists of the introduction on historical incidents and characters relating to geography with evident theoretical characteristics, complete structure, abundant content and precise word expression. The geographical teaching materials of Russia put emphasis on the healthy development of the students' global, ecological environment awareness and concept of sustainable development. The " " has many scenic sketches of various types with vivid image, bright color and novel design. But " " also has some shortcomings such as lack of practice and relatively less pictures. In conclusion, based on the comparative study, this essay puts forward some proposals as follows: pay more attention to the global problems; increase summarizing chapters, the introduction on historical incidents and geographical scientists and appendix content; improve the definition and quality of illustrations or pictures.
