Improving teaching efficiency on reading is one of the importantreform goals of middle school Chinese teaching. It is also a bottle-neckissue. After analyzing Chinese reading teaching methods at Chinesemiddle school in the past 20 years, the author has come to the conclusionthat "Unit Module Reading Teaching Method"(UMRTM) is a good way toachieve teaching efficiency. UMRTM is different from traditional UnitTeaching Methods, it is a new type of Reading Method that the author hasdeveloped. This paper pays attention to the historical development ofUnit Teaching. It first analyzes typical Unit Teaching Methods home andabroad, and defines "Unit Module Reading Teaching Method". It thentalks about the scientific implication of UMRTM, and focuses on strategiesin UMRTM based on module design and teaching practice. The five strategiesor features of UMRTM presented are integrity, openness, interaction,focus and research. The paper later summarizes points of attention whenusing UMRTM and its limitations.Since individuality should be considered in reading teaching design,as a supplement, the author recommended four methods proved to be usefulin her years of teaching practice. Lastly, the author discusses theapplication and popular usage of group discussion and multi-media, as wellas their double-sided functions in reading teaching.
