Whether the implementers of the curriculum can adjust their roles properly is a key to the success of the reform. Therefore, the transformation of the roles of teachers of Chinese is an urgent problem that the primary and high school teachers facing. The thesis is divided into three parts. Taking the problems of Chinese teaching into consideration in the background of the reform of new curriculum, the first part expounds the fundamental views of new curriculum of Chinese and the requirements to the teachers of Chinese, illustrates the definition of roles, roles of teachers and roles of teachers of Chinese, features of traditional roles of teachers as well as the tendency of the transformation of the teachers'roles in the future. The second part talks about the aim of the transformation of the roles of teachers of Chinese: to transform from the indoctrinator of knowledge into the participator, promoter and director of students'learning; to transform from the mechanic executor of the course of Chinese to the constructor and explorer of new curriculum; to transform from pedestrian teacher to the researcher and innovator of teaching. The third part puts forward the problem faced by the teachers of Chinese in the transformation of their roles. It mainly refers to the influences of traditional views of teaching and the relationship between teachers and students on the teachers of Chinese. It is quite difficult for the teachers to change their fixed teaching patterns and methods. They are also not accustomed to the new teacher-student relation. Moreover, their lack of quality also affects the transformation of their roles and worries them. Another problem is that the teachers are being caught in a dilemma– new curriculum and education for testing. Approaches to the transformation is proposed at the end part of the thesis, i.e., to set up new educational ideal which take students as its essence; to study harder to improve their quality; and pay attention to their own psychological health.
