Senior High School Entrance Examination is a crucial test, the result of which is a relatively objective evaluation of students'performance in the nine-year compulsory education. With the result of 49%of the entrance examinees admitted to senior high schools (15% to 20% of whom are admitted to famous schools), the examination therefore serves as an arbiter and selector for candidates for high schools. The author of the present paper is a teaching researcher of mathematics in Xigang District of Dalian and has for many years participated in the grading and investigating of the Entrance Examination papers. In recent years, with the release of new course standards and the increasing demands for more course reforms, problems reflected in the making of tests have gradually become a concern to the author. With a down-to-earth attitude the author has made some related investigations concerning these problems. On the basis of some adequate data and research, the author has reviewed the mathematics test in 2004, and conducted a thorough analysis and evaluation in terms of the making of the test and the teaching of the course. The author has finally put forward some suggestions hoping that they may be of some help in a rational and scientific making of Senior High School Mathematics Test as well as in the accurate teaching of mathematics in middle schools.
