| At the beginning of the 21st century, the eighth curriculum reform of the basic education is carried out in China with the focus of world' s attention. This reform brings a historical shift of concentration on from based-on knowledge and subjects to the development of each student in the curriculum of the primary and secondary school. Under this situation, a policy that the curriculum is managed by the nation, district and school is constituted, which provides a guarantee that the schools can pursue the School-Based Curriculum Development (SBCD).The school is permitted to develop the curriculum, which alters the status that the whole school is occupied by national curriculum. The advantages of SBCD are to consider the diversity of different districts, to improve the adaptability of curriculums as well as to satisfy the requirement of diverse districts, schools and students. However in this context, SBCD has brought about challenges to the theory and practice of our education. Since some problems of the theory are in discussion in the early stages of the SBCD research in our country, it is urgently necessary to realize the present status for the practitioners.This paper studies the SBCD from theoretical and practical aspects. On the one hand, the paper elaborates the concept of SBCD, defines its background and historical trace, examines its foundation of ideal, basic notion and value as well as the condition of developing the school-based curriculum. On the other hand, the paper also presents the type, practical process and evaluation of SBCD with the practice of the high school as the example. On the base of previous work, we put forward an integrated and operable instruct system with the purpose that impregnates the new content into research and practice and offers theoretical direction and reference of teaching for the SBCD. |
