| With the opening up of the society and the development of mass media (like the Internet), there is now so much information about sex available that it almost has brought about sex pollution. At the same time, however, a lack of formal education of sex has led to teenagers' ignorance about sex. The contradiction is being felt more and more deeply. The increasing improper sexual actions and even crimes among teenagers is vivid evidence. It is widely accepted that sex education should be carried out formally under such circumstances. But little work has been done on how to fulfill sex education in reality. In addition, there is still no relative educational policy and mature uniform textbooks. What's worse, sex is still a sensitive topic in our country. All this shows that neither the time nor the conditions are ripe to implement sex education regularly in most middle schools. It is more practical for teachers to take advantage of some subjects to carry out sex education in their classes. Therefore, biology teachers should burden the main responsibilities for this, as the main content of sex education is part of the science of biology.However, it must be admitted that it is still very difficult for biology teachers to list sex education in their teaching plans, let alone take real action because they have never received any formal training concerning this part, which is so sensitive at the same time. As is mentioned above, there is no specific teaching criterion, efficient teaching method or available reference. This paper tries to give some efficient ways of carrying out sex education in middle schools so that the difficulties might be reduced that biology teachers may be faced with in practical operation. All the conclusions made in this paper are based on a good many surveys conducted among middle school students from Dantu District, Zhengjiang City.According to the surveys there exist some problems in the field of sex education although some progress has been made in this area.Firstly, enough attention hasn't been paid to sex education in some schools. The contradiction between students' desire for sex knowledge and lack of education has long existed.Secondly, a vast gap exists between students. Some of them are totally ignorant about sex knowledge while some hold dangerously open views about sex.Thirdly, quite a few students are not mentally prepared when they have been in their stage of puberty. They are often puzzled by some natural physical phenomena occurring inside them.Fourthly, girl students and boy students are at different levels in sex knowledge. So are students in different grades.In order to change the unfavorable situations, after a period of experimental practical teaching, the author believes that good use can be made of the subject of biology and thus sex education can be carried out systematically and effectively in class. Biology teachers can do as follows:First of all, biology teachers should help students develop a scientific attitude toward sex..Next, biology teachers should take initiative to carry out sex education. For example, they can find out some proper teaching contents for students and explore some new acceptable ways of teaching.Third, biology teachers should carry out sex education in a most proper way, taking into consideration differences between girls and boys, students' ages, backgrounds and social culture.Lastly, biology teachers' self—improvement is the key to implementing sex education well. |
