Migrant Workers And Family Relations Research

Since the end of 1980s, large amounts of rural labor have floated into country; it becomes a social topic that is concerned on universally. Peasants' floating has changed the structure of town-country and administration system, the action rule and the way of resource allocation, and it has influenced every area of social life. Family is an active element, but it is not static, and it has changed gradually as the development of society. Patriarchy which has lasted for thousands of years, patrilocality, gender division model that "men should work outside while women should stay at home" and family Structure which uses Parent-child relationship as its axis are the characteristics of rural family relationship in traditional rural society. Rural labor group, from rural to urban, as the changes in their work environment, lifestyle and living patterns have also occurred, their family relationship will also vary with them.This thesis analyzes the influences of finding work out of rural home on conjugal relationship, choosing a spouse and intergeneration relationship, by using the methods of literature review and empirical research, and taking advantages of the latest first-hand data from LC town in Jinan.The study found that finding work out of rural home has some impacts on choosing a spouse, and makes the power relationship more equal. "Husband and wife jointly discussed" holds sway on major affair decisions. The intercommunion of feeling between married couples and stabilization of conjugal relationship haven't been seriously affected. It has influenced the quality of supporting parents mentally and that of fostering children in some degree. Economic and emotional ties with family members who stay at rural areas are closer.This thesis is composed of five sections as follows:The first chapter is the preface. The preface introduces the main idea of the thesis, and notes the theoretical and practical significance on the study of rural labours'family relationship.
