Research, University Knowledge Management System Based On System Theory

The human society has entered into knowledge economy era. The outstanding characteristic of knowledge economy era is that knowledge has become the most important competition factor. Universities have been playing the role of"knowledge producters"and they are very important"knowledge sources"of the society as well as most powerful driving force of productivity. Thus, university must improve knowledge management to enhance its key competition ability. But most research and practice of knowledge management focus on enterprises only. Very few universities have been the subject of these kind of research. Currently, few domestic universities have successfully established knowledge management systems. This phenomenon doesn't match the university's role of"knowledge producters"and hinders further development of university. With the increment of competition among universities,the demand for knowledge management by universities will keep increasing as well. In this paper, university is considered as a big complex system. System Theory is used in the analysis of university's knowledge management system. Based on this analysis, a knowledge management system model has been designed. To justify the vadility of this model, it was applied to the analysis of a real case in this paper. Compared to other research work in knowledge management field, this paper stands out with five innovations as outlined below:1,Interdisciplinary theory was applied to the analysis and construction of the knowledge management systems in universities. System Theory was employed to analyze university and knowledge management system, respectively. Based on the discovery of the relationship between university and knowledge management system, by combing the three factors:"hardware","software"and"humanware", a knowledge management system matching the specific features of a university has been developed in this paper.2,A complete and comprehensive university knowledge management system has been developed in this paper in terms of the principles of System Theory. This system integrates the administrative system, IT technology and college culture. Similar research hasn't been seen or reported by domestic researchers.3,This paper emphasizes the importance of"human"and regards the"human"as the key of knowledge management system; while IT technology has been treated as the most important factor in knowledge management system by other domestic researchers and most research work is focused on IT technology.4,This paper combined theory analysis with practice. An architecture of knowledge management system for university is designed. This architecture has practical significance for the establishment of a university knowledge management system. 5,Many successful cases and models were studied and cited in this paper. By referring to these cases and models, essential abstraction was drawn to facilitate theoretical analysis, which makes this paper more convincible.
