As a outstanding national traditional sports items, martial arts have irreplaceable functions, such as promoting the graduate students' physical and moral integrity; raising the graduate students' outstanding moral character, setting up the national prices; inheriting China traditional culture and so on. So they are the best choices for our students. Since the founding of our nation, the education administrative department has stressed many times that martial arts should be included as official sports curriculum in all-level schools.However, because of condition differences, elective course of martial arts haven't been taught at large range, and influent the reform of the martial arts education.This article investigated and analyzed the present situation about the elective course of martial arts in ordinary university of Nanjing by reading literature material, sending questionnaire survey, interviewing experts, collecting and analyzing statistics. And the following are some conclusions:Firstly, at present, the teaching goal's localization is still restrained by the traditional thinking habits, and only pays attention to technic teaching and the short-term benefits. The most graduate students haven't enough understanding on the long-range goal of the elective course of martial arts and the consciousness of exercise all of one's life.Secondly, although they are liked deeply by the students, the courses' contents and teaching forms are relatively unitary, and favor in technology, but not theory, couldn't satisfy the students' interests and favor the development of these elective course.Thirdly, sports facilities are obsolete. There are not enough place and equipments, and immediately influence the teaching effect.Fourthly, there are very big difference in the aspect of the teachers' title, and proportion of the teacher who get senior title is relatively few. Specially, during the group of our young teacher, their teaching methods and research abilities also wait for enhancing.Fifthly, the class hour is very short. At present, ordinary universities of Nanjing establish elective course of martial arts at the lower-grade, so it's unable to guarantee that the students can learn the martial arts better.Sixthly, the teaching is still be appraised with the summary appraisal method, which is sole. It doesn't wait for the further reforms of the elective course of martial arts, and should to be improved as soon as possibly.
