To create a high-qualified teaching staff, which is the basic guarantee for the quality education, is an important measurement to practice the policy of relying on science and education to rejuvenate the nation, is a key factor deciding the success of elementary education reform. Further education for the rural primary school teachers is an effective approach to improve teachers' quality and an important component in teacher education. Therefore, it's of great significance to study the teachers' further education in this new stage of elementary education reform in our country.On the base of looking into a lot of related materials in primary school teachers' further education both domestic and abroad, this research selects the Zichuan County primary school teachers as the subject. The author looks into the current condition of their continuing education by means of questionnaire and interview. The research involves the teachers' view, the mode of continuing education, curriculum, trainee, agency and the assessment and testing methods, etc.As the survey shows, the major problems existing in rural primary school teachers' continuing education are that: the continuing education's aim is not clear; the processes are short of dynamics; the training contents are empty and non-oriented; the training patterns are lack of diversity and flexibility; the trainers are not professional; the assessment and testing methods are not scientific or efficient, etc.Then the author of this thesis proposes a solution for the problems mentioned above: to set up a system of continuing education for the rural primary school teachers. The system should include the following: a rational goal, scientific and efficient courses, flexible and multifarious training methods, high quality trainers and a perfect training evaluation system.The problems and system listed in this thesis will be useful for the education administrative departments in their decision-making. By referring to these, they can actually improve the efficiency of primary school teachers' continuing education and ensure the training quality. The thesis, meanwhile, offers the primary school teachers an instruction to help them realize the significance of the continuing education, then improve their teaching ability and accelerate their professional development, which can offer high quality teachers for the elementary education reform.
