Lessons To Improve Teachers' Professional Quality

Teaching report is a new born teaching mechanism since the education reform after the Cultural Revolution. It was first raised by the teaching & research office of Hongqi district, Xinxiang, Henan province in 1987. There were two forms of such teaching mechanism, pre-course teaching report and post-course teaching report. Thanks to its positive characteristic and effect in teaching research, it was soon acknowledged and accepted by education circles.Teaching report is a teaching research activity that teacher prepares lessons, under the guidance of scientific theory, by analysing the teaching materials and understanding of Curriculum Criterion, teaching methodology and strategy, as well as status of students. The teacher states teaching procedure and shares experience, while being evaluated by listeners. With its further development, the types of teaching report are expanding continuously. According to teaching management function, it is divided by four types, including study & discussion, case study, demonstration model and evaluation teaching report. According to teaching scale, it is divided by three types, including individual random teaching report, group show teaching report and team interaction teaching report. According to research and training function, it is divided by three types, including theoretical-learning based, research-guidance based, and practice-based teaching report. According to guidance function, it is divided by two types, including pre-course study & discussion, as well as post-course reflection. The article below mainly focuses on pre-course study & discussion teaching report, as well as post-course reflection teaching report.The content of teaching report includes six aspects: analysis of teaching materials and teaching objectives, instruction on study methodology and student status, adjustment of teaching methodology and strategy, design of ideas on teaching procedure, solution of urgent incidence, summary of experience and improvement. The procedure of teaching report consists of three steps: preparation, statement and evaluation.Teaching report can enhance teachers'professional quality. The professional quality of teachers is a mix requirements of knowledge, competence and confidence possessed by teachers. It is achieved through well-established educational background and strict training of teachers. A domestic study on teachers'professional quality structure shows that a qualified teacher should possess multiple knowledge and competences. Generally speaking, it should include four aspects: conception of education, professional knowledge, professional skills and education intelligence.The reasons why teaching report can enhance teachers'professional quality are :1.Teaching report can facilitate teachers to update their conception of education, and drive the transformation of conception of curriculum, conception of students, as well as conception of teaching;2.Teaching report can promote teachers to focus on study and expand professional knowledge ; 3.Teaching report can boost communication with colleagues, mutually enhance professional skills. Teaching report can accumulate educational intelligence of teachers and equip them with good psychology quality;4.Teaching report can also advance the individual development of teachers and dramatically improve the verbal expression skills, observation skills, attention distribution skills, systematically and logically thinking skills, creativity, imagination, educational tact, as well as reflection ability, all of which found a solid ground for the continuous development.Teaching report can enhance teachers'professional quality while its side effects can not be ignored.To make best use of teaching report's pros and bypass the cons, and provide multiple conditions for the development of teachers, I put forward the following suggetions.1. To make the best use of the learning function of the teaching report and enhance the theoretical competence of teachers; to organize training activities on teaching report, and cultivate teachers'individual learning; to utilize the advantage of demonstration model of teaching report, promote the development of younger teachers by the piloting influence from elder teachers. 2. To make the best use of the teaching & research function of the teaching report and enhance the teaching & research ability of teachers; to improve the quality of group lesson preparation, and enrich the content of pre-course study & research teaching report; to follow up on the"normal course", and enhance teachers'skills through post-course reflectional teaching report.3. To make the best use of the creativity spirit of the teaching report and enrich teachers'teaching intelligence. To use teaching report as a means of training young teachers'basic abilities, and found a solid ground to form teaching intelligence. To redirect the focus of teaching report and lead teachers to master, on the basis of co-operation and creativity, the principle of"the mix of adequate pre-setting and intelligence generating"; to utilise the function of"evaluation teaching report"and consummate the multiple teachers'evaluation system.Two cases study on"enhancement of teachers'professional quality through teaching report"are attached in the appendix of this article. The cases demonstrate that teaching report can enhance teachers'profession quality, and speed their growth of career development.
