Enhancing the mental health education of college student and cultivating excellent mental quality is the demand of training high-quality talents in the new period. Curriculum teaching is the main channel of school education, so it will efficiently undertake the task to bring the mental health education into the higher education curriculum system. The curriculum for mental health education of college students has been successively established in Chinese colleges and universities. However, there are still many problems in the curriculum because of the late establishing. The main research of the thesis includes the present situation of the curriculum for mental health education in the general colleges and universities of Xi'an city, the existing problems and their countermeasure. The theoretical basis of the thesis is laid by the theory of pedagogy and psychology, and questionnaire is adopted to investigate the present situation of the curriculum for mental health education in the general colleges and universities of Xi'an city. Based on the careful analysis of the investigation results, constructive suggestions are proposed for the developing of the curriculum and it will be beneficial to the improvement of the curriculum.The thesis is composed of four chapters.The first chapter is introduction, including five parts. The research problem of the thesis is put forward in the first part. The author has considered the current problem of the curriculum for mental health education of college students, through analyzing the contradiction between the necessity of establishing the curriculum and the deficient effect of the curriculum. The second part is the purpose and significance of research, which endeavor to theoretically extend the research content of the curriculum. The research method is introduced in the third part. Duo to the confusion of the expressions about the curriculum, the author has defined the concepts of mental health, school mental health education and the curriculum for mental health education of college students, for the convenience. The fifth part is the research review, which indicates the research situation of the curriculum and points out the theoretical innovation based on the literature research.The second chapter is the theoretical basis of the curriculum for mental health education of college students. The theory of pedagogy and psychology is introduced, and their guiding value for the curriculum is analyzed, respectively. The theoretical basis for the research is established in the chapter.The third chapter presents the investigation and analysis of the curriculum for mental health education in the general colleges and universities of Xi'an city. The method and results of the investigation are displayed in the chapter. Through the analysis of the results, the existing problems of the curriculum is exposed, i.e. the lack of the curriculum system, the poor popularization of the curriculum, severe dogmatizing, serious casualness, the deficiency of normality, etc.The fourth chapter is the countermeasure to develop the curriculum for mental health education in the general colleges and universities of Xi'an city. Aiming at the current defect of the curriculum, the countermeasure for promoting the curriculum is proposed. The strategy can be summarized as follow: 1.theoretically defining the property and role of the curriculum again and recognizing the essentiality of the curriculum in the higher education system; 2.using the mode of compulsory course, elective course and lecture, and constructing the popularizing curriculum system for mental health education of college students; 3.constructing objective system of the curriculum, i.e. taking the developmental objective as principal part and preventing objective as auxiliary part, 4. according to different person, time, place and situation, choosing the curriculum content meeting the psychological needs of college students;5.optimizing the teaching by adopting diverse methods.
