With the development of "Happy sports","Lifelong sports" in the physical education in China's colleges.An instructive outline of physical education courses,issued by the Ministry of Education in 2002,says that the students have rights to choose their teaching contents,teachers and class time,since the policy was implemented the class of track and field has been increasingly ignored by the students in colleges.However,the recent physical tests indicate that the students' constitution is decreasing,with the improvement of their life standard.The paper studies 60 male students in Yulin College in Grad 1 in 2005,Also the paper makes a theoretical analysis and experimental study of the implementation of track and field in college physical education by employing many approaches such as documentation,interviewing,questionnaire,experiments and statistics and puts forward some suggestions,The content of the PE course can not be chose freely by the students in the colleges now,One term compulsory course of track and field should be served to them,The selective course of PE and compulsory track and field can be combined in one as a new teaching model.The conclusion is as follows:1.According to the questionnaires of the deans of 48 colleges in Beijing and Shaanxi,only two colleges,that is 4.17 percent of the 48 colleges have the class,but not in the rest of the universities or colleges,that is 95.83 percent of the whole.This shows the teaching of track and field in colleges is in great difficulty.2.From the contrastive study of the experiment,the class of track and field has remarkable role on the students' constitution.Before the experiment,The physical test of the experimental team and contrast team is in good condition(60~75 marks).After one semester's teaching,the students' vital capacity has marked difference(p<0.05)except height,weight setting-position trunk bending forward(p>0.05),Index of vital capacity and body weight,index of Harver's master "Z-step" Exercise Test,standing long-jump have very marked differences(P<0.01).But the contrast team don't have marked difference before and after the experiment(P>0.05),according to the grades of physical test after the experiment,30percent of the students in the contrast team decreased to 60-75 examination scores that is the excellent level,but 46.67 percent of the experimental students reached more than 86 marks.3.The decreasing of the students' constitution according to the analysis of the experimental results is closely related to the teaching contents the students choices.The students are more inclined to choose entertaining and labour-saving events,Actually,it reflects some students' thoughts of laziness and their inadequate knowledge of the physical improvement of the track and field.Meanwhile,the paper also discusses the necessity of serving the class to the students in the colleges.First of all,the class is a compulsory course to enhance,the students' constitution.Secondly,the class is a basic one of the selective courses in physical education.Last,the class can alleviate the deficiency of the gymnasiums in the colleges.
