We have been an epoch that economy highly depends on the developments of technology and knowledge. In this epoch, natural science, engineering and social science are interrelated where their influences are diffused in each others and more and more great innovations and inventions are achieved across their intersections. Therefore, an increasing number of integration subjects and interdisciplines are established. In this trend, scientific research and technical innovation heavily rely on the cooperation between organizations or research teams. Universities are the major forces for the national knowledge innovation and their functions on education and building our innovation-oriented China are indispensable.This thesis proposed the research on how to build and manage innovation teams for scientific research in universities. To achieve this, we adopt the methodology of combination literature survey with the compare of exiting related researches. By carefully looking up related researches and analyzing their disadvantages in addition to finding new challenges from interviewing our clients, we have comprehensively and systematically described current status of innovation teams for scientific research in the universities. By applying the Innovation theory, Team Role Theory, Incentive Theory and Psychological Contract Theory, we have investigated in depth on the general issues in the management of innovation teams for scientific research in universities. Based on our research, we have concluded the key factors in building universities'innovation teams: academic research environment, collections of talents, leading research professors, inter-cohesion of the teams and incentive mechanism. From those keys, we can see the essentials to build those innovation teams more efficiently, therefore, put forward our advices on relative policies decision making. Moreover, we come up with methods to efficiently manage those teams from three different levels: system of organization, cooperation and team cultures. This idea is based on our research of balance theory from social psychological contract and it is the key of constructing group harmony, maintaining team innovation abilities and their sustainable developments. The thesis is composed of six chapters:Chapter I: Preface. It introduced the background of this research. First of all, why the research of building and management of innovation teams for scientific research in universities is important? Second, we surveyed the history and current existing researches of this topic. Then, we outlined my research approach.Chapter II: I introduced the related theories that we used in my thesis. It includes a description how we apply those theories in my research. This chapter provided the theoretical background for my thesis.Chapter III: In this chapter, we have comprehensively and systematically analyses current status of innovation teams for scientific research in the universities. Based on these, we have summarized the challenges of this topic and made our initial study on how they come into being.Chapter IV: This chapter studied some typical cases of building and management of innovation teams for scientific research in Chinese or international universities. Based on our studies, we summarized the experiences and lessons for our research and we also learned the orientation how innovation teams for scientific research in universities should be developed. Chapter V: Based on our discovering of the general characters in the management of innovation teams for scientific research in Chinese universities, we have concluded the five key factors. Following these, detailed explanations are presented.Chapter VI: From our discovery of the five key factors to build those innovation teams, we come up with the policies to deal with the innovation teams for scientific research in Chinese universities more efficiently from three different levels: system of organization, cooperation and team cultures.Finally, we still have a lot of research left behind the thesis. An outline of our future research is presented.
