The thesis is trying to introduce the theory of western literary and art criticism, which is part of the theory of New Historcism ,to the literature teaching in senior high schools. The theory rose in the 1980s in the 20th century . In order to meet the problem that the advanced theory of literature and art is divorced from the practice of high school Chinese teaching, the thesis introduces the theory. The thesis has preliminarily studied the present common problems of the literature teaching in senior high schools. It has been trying to seek for the ways to solve these problems according to the theory of New Historcism. The thesis has also initially studied the Chinese Course Standard for Senior High School, which was promulgated by Ministry of Education in 2003.The Course Standard has defined aim and requirements for literature teaching. The thesis is trying to look for the correspondence between literature teaching and the theory of New Historcism and the Course Standard . The result is that the main ideas of the theory essentially agrees with the basic conceptof the Course Standard. It is also a good way to solve the long-standing problems of the literature teaching in senior high schools. In addition ,the thesis has done further researches for the literature teaching in senior high schools in order to draw great inspiration from the theory and strategies of New Historcism. So the system of the literature teaching in senior high schools can be built up initially under the New Historcism.The thesis is made up of four parts.Part one is about general requirements of the new course improvement for the teachingof literary works reading in middle schools. First of all, the thesis has analysed the teaching background of literary works reading under the new course improvement . It has pointed out many problems of the present literature teaching. Then it has studied the general requirements of the New Standard for the teaching of literary works reading. After that, the new textbooks put the teaching of literary works reading in a different position.. It is quite clear at the present time that the teaching of literary works reading is very important and it has important function as well. The thesis has also pointed out lots of literature teaching problems demanding solution urgently.Part Two, the theory of New Historcism and its interpretation as the domain. This part has preliminary studied the theories and methods of New Historcism in three aspects--- the concept of the New Historicism, the view of cognizance and the strategy of criticism.Part Three, the New Historcism: The doctrine has opened up a new horizons for the teaching of reading literary works. This section attempts to makethe basic theory of the doctrine understood and absorbed ,and then put the theory into the teaching of reading literary works in senior high schools.That is analysed in for aspects: from "the literature teaching in the background of 'big literary and cultural'", "the re-understanding about 'putting literature and history together' ", "the teachers and students 'present' in the literary appreciation ", "pluralistic, open and dynamic generation " .Part Four, is about what teachers can learn from the methodology of the New Historcism, and about how to put what they learn into the teaching of literary works reading. It has mainly studied the perspective of the methodology from the New Historicism on high school teaching. The thesis is trying to show three ways: the first way is the Broad Teaching Method under the enlightenment pedagogy ofthe marginalization strategy , The second way is that the comprehension of the texts should meet the needs of the students, which is the inspiration ofthe reader's reception idea of New Historicism , strategy, The third way is to read the texts as carefully as possible.
