Poetry is the essence of traditional Chinese culture, thus, Chinese teaching should lay emphasis on developing the tradition of poetry teaching and construct poetic life. The part of introduction focuses on the necessity of sticking to poetry teaching under the New Course Standard and significance of contemporary poetry teaching and developing the traditional poetry teaching. It puts forwards the problems concerned in the thesis and relevant methods to solve them.Chapter I concentrates on the analysis of current situation of contemporary poetry teaching. It goes deep into the reach from the angle of students' learning, teachers' teaching and text selection, revealing the paradox existing in contemporary poetry teaching; therefore it shows the necessity of revolving the relevant teaching method. Chapter II points out the requirement and features of contemporary poetry teaching under the New Course Standard in accordance with the theory in the New Course Standard and combined with the features of contemporary poetry. Chapter III mainly states strategies of contemporary poetry teaching, to fill the class with poetic atmosphere and colure students with poetic feelings, and thus to enhance the charm of Chinese teaching.The thesis holds the opinion that the New Course Standard is an advanced thought of education guided by people oriented, under whose thought, contemporary poetry teaching is certain to bear the duty of enhancing aesthetic appreciation and cultivating creative minds. Therefore, contemporary poetry teaching is supposed to display the feature of instructing students enjoy the beauty of poetry, to understand the thought of poetry and to accumulate words of poetry. In the process of teaching, we should apply the strategies of appreciating poetry by reading, understanding poetry by thinking, teaching poetry through poetry and converting poetry by writing.; emphasize recital and appreciation, analyzing the words and sentences, sensing the beauty of poetry; make use of imagination and association to penetrate the poetic scene; go deep into the poetry through comparison and lastly appreciate life and color it with poetic flavour thus forming poetic savvy. Make contemporary poetry teaching cultivate students to peruse the true, the kind and the aesthetic and stimulate their passion for life and vigour of creation.
