The importance of agriculture has been self-evident in China, and so has beenthat of agricultural trade. Decades ago, when the turnover of China's agricultural tradefluctuated below $2 billion, it was upon the selling of agricultural products abroadthat the newly-founded Republic depended for earning its rare but necessary foreigncurrencies;today, decades later, when China has made enormous achievements in itseconomy, it is still partly depending upon the same line for swelling the purses of the0.8 billion farmers who have long been fighting to realize their long-harbored dreamof a well-off life.On account of the extraordinary significance of agricultural trade in China, of thefurthering liberalization of agricultural trade in today's world, and of the latter's everincreasing impact upon the global agricultural trade, it is necessary that we make athorough analysis of China's agricultural trade against the very background of theliberalization of global agricultural trade, and therewith get prepared for the inevitablyapproaching shock waves.Starting with a summarization of international trade liberalization, this articledescribes in detail the liberalizing process of international agricultural trade. In thispart, WTO Agricultural Agreement is treated with special attention. In addition, thearticle also deals with the liberalizing process of international agricultural trade in thePost-Agricultural Agreement era.As the next step, the data of China's agricultural trade in the past ten years ischanged into a number of figs and tables, which will enable readers to have a clearpicture of the changes and developments in this sector. Then this article takes a furtherstep and delves into the impact of international agricultural trade liberalization onChina's agricultural trade. In the concluding part of the article, both challenges andopportunities China is facing are listed, and a number of countermeasure proposalsare put forward.
