The situation that China's economic centers and energy centers are located in different areas has led to a huge demand for transportation between cities of production and consumption of coal. So, our country has put forward the north and west coal to east and south by ship and railway. Shenhua Group now has Huanghua two ports by their own, that are Huanghua Port and Shenhua Coal Dock in Tianjin. The other part of the coal is also transited through Tianjin Port coal terminal.As there are too many coal transit sites and the logistics activities are complex, almost every node has potential loss factors in the transportation process. If the process is poorly designed or mismanaged, those loss problems may result in very impressive transfer loss. How to control the loss of transit port has become the primary problem. The current control methods of Shenhua Tianjin Office are arranging on-duty staff on each node. The effect is good, but it occupies too many workers and the efficiency is not perfect.In this paper, a combination of qualitative and quantitative, theoretical research and empirical analysis is used. First of all, based on the analysis of three transit sites' processes, all possible factors that may lead to coal loss is obtained. Secondly, factor analysis model is used in the process of determining the key factors. Thirdly, a questionnaire survey is conducted among the relevant managers and staff and the data will be the input sources of the above model and the out put proves that dust, handling, stacking, measurement inaccuracy have played an important role in the coal loss. Finally, to reduce the loss caused by key factors some method are advised, specifically including the optimization of transfer processes, enhancing yard management, dust control, paying close attention to measurement, personnel training. In the whole process, we strongly recommend that the PDCA cycle be used.
