The thesis draws a conclusion that the theory of civil society had pass through two phases before Hegel's: classical civil society theory and contemporary civil society theory. These two kinds of theories offered the basis to Hegel's study of state and civil society. For these elements, the thesis focuses on the further analyzing and studying of Hegel's fundamental theory. Hegel made a distinction between civil society and the politic state, put forward the accurate concept of "civil society". He founded the integral and systematic modern civil society. Hegel's theory far-reaching impacts Marx's thought about Historical Materialism, which constituted the starting point of Marx's studying about the relationship between civil society and the state. But Hegel's theory had many inevitably defects because he inspected civil society in ethic instead of realistic way. So,Marx inherited and shaped the theory again, he described the concept of the civil society and the relations between civil society and state scientifically, and he drew a conclusion that which is opposite to Hegel's, it is that the civil society determined the state. Marx realized the great transformation to Historical Materialism from this conclusion.Part three: this part mainly discusses the influence of Marx's theory to modern society and its guidance significant to our country. We should analyze the Hegel's theory in the opinion from Marx's Historical Materialism point, in order to handle the relationship between the state and society correctly, to promote the system reform of our government and to explore the enlightenment of building harmonious society.
