Rural direct election system is a great creation of democratic politics of socialism with Chinese characteristics, which is constructed by hundreds of millions of farmers in the leadership of Communist Party of China. It refers to the election of Village Committee. This system has had a history of more than20years since it produced; its impact on China's vast rural areas is evident. However, China is a large agricultural country and has a large population; rural population accounts for about70percent of the total population; problems faced by rural election are complex. As a continuous new thing, rural direct election is a significant advancement of rural electoral system. But the theoretical research on the field is still relatively weak. To research the problems of rural direct election and analyze the reasons of these problems have great significance in improving rural direct election.My paper is made up of5chapters. Chapter one is introduction; it summarizes the background and significance of the research on rural direct election, the structure of the article, the basic ideas and the research methods. Chapter two defines the concept of "rural direct election"; sorts out the development of rural direct election in our country; states the basis principles and characteristics of rural direct election in China and finally points out the significance of improving rural direct election in our country. Chapter three describes the current situation and existing problems of rural direct election in our country; the problems are as follows:the imperfections of legal system, the interferences of township government in the election, the interferences of the religious force in the election and bribery problems. Chapter four is the focus of the article; it elaborates the main strategies to improve the rural direct election in our country. Chapter five is conclusion; it summarizes the main content of the article.
