Skipping, being one of the national traditional sports, is a combination of competition, recreation, and appreciation, which is not only simple to play but also helpful in terms of body building. Being popular throughout a long history, rope skipping enjoys a favorable reputation all around the world. What's more, it is of special significance in the rural areas in our country. This research is carried out under the background of reform of The Curriculum Standard for Physical Education, together with holding of the Sun Shine Sports of Hundreds of Millions Students, as well as the National Fitness activity, taking students of primary and secondary schools in Hunan Longhui County as its study objects, to make clear the implementation situation of skipping activity there. Concerning methodologies involved are documentation, interview, questionnaire, and on-the-spot investigation. With the general knowledge, dialectical analysis, and rational reflection made, problems existing are found, and series of corresponding solutions are worked out then. Thus being the case, a theoretical basis is formed for implementation of skipping in the primary and secondary schools, improvement of students' physical fitness, and acceleration of a healthy as well as sustainable development of rope skipping. Conclusions arrived are listed as follows:1. Though there are skipping competitions being held for five years in a row, the form is simple and boring, which is far from satisfactory.2. Due to the shortage of physical teachers and sites, only a few schools offer such skipping activity.3. Most of the sports are taking place outside schools, as a result, students" enthusiasm for participation is lowed.4. Students in rural areas do have interests in skipping, which were weakened for certain reasons.5. Training on physical teachers there has been unavailable for quite a long time.6. Most of the physical teachers are teaching students in a traditional way, but rather by means of modern techniques, such as network, multi-media equipment, etc. In addition, their willingness of learning skipping skills is weak.Suggestions put forward in regards of the aforesaid problems are as follows:1. Strengthen the management of physical teachers, and conducting trainings on them.2. Prepare the detailed plan for skipping teaching, changing the boring teaching form, and adopting various evaluation methods.3. Hold various forms of skipping competitions on irregular terms, enriching the lives of local people.4. Keep skipping class throughout education, innovating skipping methods continuously.5. Enhance extracurricular trainings on skipping, thus driving development of sports activities in school, and colorizing the daily life.
