In 2010, the Chinese Ministry of Education set up the "Leading Group of National Primary Educational Materials" and "Committee of Experts of National Primary Educational Materials". From the establishment of these organizations we can see Chinese educational departments' concern of the composing of primary textbooks. This thesis uses the analyzing methodology of literature study and content analysis, focusing on the music teaching material of KYO-GEI publishing (Music for Primary Students 1-6). Through static analysis, the thesis summarizes the features of Japanese music teaching materials and further discusses how they can provide ideas for Chinese teaching materials. Hopefully this thesis could make a contribution of data and experience to the new round revision of Chinese textbooks. The thesis consists of four parts. The first part is general summary of Japanese textbooks from the perspectives of the Japanese textbook system, the different kinds of textbooks, the background and guiding principle when composing and the content of textbooks. The second part is static analysis of Japanese primary music textbooks in content, organization, volume, compiling and style. The third part is summary and analysis of the features of Japanese primary music textbooks. The fourth part is a discuss of what Chinese primary music textbooks can get from Japanese textbooks according to current Chinese primary music textbooks; and the trend of future Japanese primary music textbooks.
