In Planned Economy Era, the working unit system used to be one of the most important parts of political system and social system in China. As a representative of the working unit organization, the state-owned enterprise is the major form of Chinese social life and social structure. With the deepening of social reforming, the working unit system is becoming to crash down, which leads to a series of changes from the macroscopic system to microcosmic level. In this process, the traditional industrial workers in the state-owned enterprise suffered huge impact inevitably. In the role's transition from master to Migrant workers, it is unavoidable that the worker will produce anxiety, resistance and other negative emotion. If this negative emotion cannot be vented and the difficulties cannot be effectively improved, it may lead to produce more imbalances and conflict issues, which become deep obstacles to the economic and social progress. The importance of this research lies in providing a basis and focus for the improvement of the workers'life on the current situation. What's more, it has great significance for the healthy, harmonious and stable development in society. This thesis is a study on the Beijing shougang Co., LTD and adopts a qualitative method to research. This paper composed of six chapters:As an introduction, chapter one introduces the purpose and significance of this topic, study and material collection methods. It also attempts to sort out and refine the selected and related literatures. The second chapter introduces the background of the study. In the past thirty years of reform and openness the status of workers in China underwent enormous changes. This part will show the transition from the planned economy to market economy, the unit system to modern enterprise system and the government-corporation management mode to the government-corporation separation mode, which can contribute to understand deeply.Chapter Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ are the key parts of this study. In chapter Ⅲ, it mainly described the work and life changes from work attitude, attraction of state-owned enterprise, work environment, social welfare, belonging of enterprise and community. Through the description, the author used Webber's multivariate stratification theory to analyze the changes of social status of traditional workers in chapter Ⅳ. The author draws a conclusion that the identity had got lost. Chapter Ⅴ puts emphasis up on reconstruction of identity. The author discusses the changes and adjustments that workers made to adapt identity anxiety through psychology, consciousness and action. As the findings and conclusion, the last part summarizes that the staff in state-owned enterprise have underwent clear changes about work attitude, steady income, entertainment activities, etc. But deeper problems are hidden beneath the surface, namely the relatively decreases of economic income, single entertainment activities, cold and distant relationship and declination of social status. All above bring relatively deprived feeling to the workers. The author believes that the identification of traditional workers has changed through system change. It reflects on two aspects. One is that they classify themselves as disadvantaged groups and the bottom of society. The pride and superiority that they enjoy in the past got lost. The other is that they still miss and want to return to their original identity. However, most of workers have willingness to reconfiguration their identities. What's more, they have made some changes and adjustments on psychology, consciousness and action.
