High school modern and contemporary prose, as an important part in Chinese language teaching, isbecoming more and more important after the new curriculum reform. However, Chinese teachers have notpaid enough attention on it because of the exam-orientated education, ideas and other reasons for such along time. Three-dimensional teaching target proposed the new curriculum standard which strives toimprove the students' reading and writing ability. But in the pressure of the exam, teachers focus more onexam skill training, neglecting the cultivation of the students' comprehensive, especially reading andwriting ability. Modern and contemporary prose is characterized by its short length, nature and cleverlanguage, abundant humanity meaning. Prose-reading can manifest the humanities characteristics, canpromote personality, cultivate one's taste, can measure a personal experience, feeling and appreciation. Ifwe can coordinate reading and writing in modern and contemporary prose teaching, there will be a goodeffect.Most of the teachers simplify the prose teaching to reading teaching in modern and contemporaryprose teaching. Teachers pay too much emphasis on reading skills and writing methods, rather than thegood modern and contemporary prose example of the textbook. It is difficult for students to learn writingknowledge from modern and contemporary prose. Teachers separate reading and writing leading them totwo separate parts in modern and contemporary prose teaching. Based on the current status of modern andcontemporary prose teaching and its characteristics, this paper explores some measures of the coordinationof writing and reading so that it can strengthen the students' individuality and subjectivity so as to cultivatestudents' interest, expand their reading vision, enrich their spiritual world and improve their culture taste.There are three chapters in this thesis. Chapter one defines the modern and contemporary prose andsummarizes and analyzes the current status of modern and contemporary prose teaching. Chapters twoproves the feasibility of coordination between reading and writing in the teaching and explains it withconstructivism theory, cognitive transfer theory and new curriculum theory. It reviews the history of thecoordination of the reading and writing, also takes examples from abroad. Chapter three, the main bodypart of this paper, discussed the principle of coordination of reading and writing and its strategy. Chapter four states the requirements to the teachers and students in practicing coordination of reading and writing.The purpose of this thesis is to find an effective way for modern and contemporary prose teaching inthe new curriculum reform, and do somewhat for our Chinese teaching reform. The study is merelyexpected to be a helpful reference to the future research.
