Energy Efficiency Of Construction Industry And Its Influencing Factors

The global energy crisis has become one important bottleneck that restricts the economic development, and energy conservation is the key to change the economic growth style. As one of the three major energy-consuming industries, construction industry is the focus of energy conservation. Because of the zone discrepancy, the accurate measurement of the energy efficiency and energy-saving potential of regional construction industry is the premise of formulating energy-saving goals. And the deeply research about the influencing factors of energy efficiency and its mechanism, is the basis of developing effective energy-saving measures.Introduced the total-factor energy efficiency frame in to the construction industry for the first time, the paper built the index system of energy efficiency evaluation, which included capital, labor, building material, energy and total output of construction industry. Based on the panel data of 30 provinces from the 2005 to 2009, it measured the energy efficiency and energy-saving potential using principal component analysis and data envelopment analysis, and analyzed its convergence. And then, selected 10 factors by theoretical analysis and literature analysis, it analyzed their influence for the energy efficiency of construction industry using Tobit regression model, compared with the factor decomposition analysis, which is more advantageous to grasp the specific reason.The results show that there are distinct differences on the energy efficiency and energy -saving potential among the different provinces; Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Heilongjiang and Tianjin have the highest efficiency, while Inner Mongolia, Shandong and Hainan lowest; the infra-regional difference of the east and central regions slowly reduce from 2007; the energy-saving potential of Shandong is the largest, accounting for about 34% of the total quantity, and followed by Hebei and Inner Mongolia; energy consumption structure, degree of industrial development, industrial concentration, ownership structure, opening degree and capitalization level are the critical influencing factors for the energy efficiency of construction industry.
