Roller coaster is widely built in amusement parks and theme parks and it’s very popular with tourists. The movement process of roller coaster contains a lot of physics principles. And phenomena such as weightlessness, overweight and centrifugal phenomenon constantly appear in the high-speed movement process. Thus, the security of roller coaster is directly determined by the kinematics and dynamics performance in the movement process.In the movement process, initial gravitational potential energy of roller coaster is constantly consumed by wheel-track friction and other resistances, so the kinematics and dynamics performance of roller coaster in the movement process are directly determined by the value of the wheel-track system friction. The value of friction coefficient of wheel-track system is determined based on experience in the current kinematics and dynamics analysis of roller coaster. However, the actual friction is influenced by material properties, load, sliding speed, temperature, surface roughness, surface coating and so on. So it is necessary to conduct experimental research on friction characteristics of the roller coaster wheel-track system to ensure the authenticity of the simulation and improve the integrated design of roller coaster.Firstly, the paper introduces the design process of test instrument of roller coaster wheel-track system friction coefficient. Different types of wheel and track can be mounted on the test instrument. Thus, friction coefficient of different types of wheel and track under different pressures and velocities can be measured by the test instrument. So the test instrument is applicable to different types of roller coaster, and it has good practicability and universality. Then, the finite element analysis software ANSYS and ANSYS Workbench are used for modeling, applying load and boundary condition, and doing the strength check of key components of the test instrument. Besides, the dynamic simulation analysis software ADAMS, the3D solid design software Pro/E, and the finite element analysis software ANSYS are applied to build the virtual prototype of the coupled model of test instrument, conduct research on the dynamic performance of the test instrument and ensure the performance of the test instrument. Finally, simulation test and analysis on virtual prototype are conducted by listing different data. Then, MATLAB software are used to process data of simulation results in order to get the function of friction coefficient on pressure and velocity and verily the feasibility of test instrument.The paper validates the feasibility of the designed test instrument and shows that the structure strength of the test instrument can meet the requirements and the dynamic performance of test instrument can satisfy the needs of the frietion performance test. So this paper provides a valuable reference for simulation design of roller coaster.
