With the development of science and technology and the increasing demand of communication in the field, English for Science and Technology (EST) translation as a kind of important media has been attached more importance to than ever before. Researches and probes in the strategies and skills of EST translation are essential to improve the quality of EST translation products, of which analysis and translation of the long and difficult sentences are of great importance.EST, which originates from common English, has its special characteristics in lexis, rhetoric and syntax. For syntax, EST differentiates itself from common English in the aspects such as the frequent use of the passive voice, nonfinite verbs, nominalization and long sentences, of which the use of long sentences is most notable.The thesis mainly focuses on the features of syntax and the characteristics of the long sentences in EST, pointing out that the long sentences in EST are essentially of a prototype category, and figuring out several translation strategies in coping with them. Based on her own translation practice, the author discusses 5 translation methods, which are the sequential method, the inversion method, the clause replacement method, the sentence merging method and the aggregative method, displaying how to employ them in EST translation respectively for the reference of the readers.
