The only-child is one of special social groups after family planning policy in china, they have been main part of college. Our country has been in great transition of economy, politics, culture and society, which deeply affected college students’ live and study, family and love, interpersonal relationships, social competition, etc. Then students appeared more and more mental health problems, and the prevalence of neurosis has been increasing. Morita neuroticism is abnormally neurotic or psychotic personality that closely related to neuroticism, it’s basic characteristics are autocriticism, ego centralism, ideologism, perfectionism, sensitiveness, anxiety, and so on, which have great consistency with inadequate personality of single children. According to Morita Shoma’s opinion that every one might arise the symptoms of neuroticism, We thought that one children of college students has being in the critical period of personality development, formation and stablity, but they might develop bad morita neuroticism due to selves or environment that endangered their mental health. So we revised“morita neurotic character questionnaire”applied to china, and tested the relationship between morita neurotic character and mental health of single child, that were of great signifiance in exploring the causes of their mental health, screening early, education early, and intervention of morita neurotic character, targetedly developing the psychological counselling education, shaping sound personality, and maintaining their mental health. This study has two parts: fristly, we revised“morita neurotic character questionnaire”based on chinese culture, and tested it’s reliability and validity, so we could provide a more accurate prediction tools for diagnosis and treatment of neuroticism; secondly, we tested the applicability of revised questionnaire, and discussed the factors of morita neuroticism and the relationship between personality and mental health of the only-child in college.Results:1. The Cronbachαcoefficient of“morita neurotic character questionnaire”was 0.875, Spearman-Brown split-half reliability was 0.893, Guttman split-half reliability was 0.891; the content validity was credible, the relationship between the score of morita character and EPQ-N, P were positively significant (r=0.503 or r=0.201, p<0.01 or p<0.05) , negatively related to EPQ-E (r=-0.373,p<0.01), which showed that the questionnaire has good convergent and discriminant validity. The criterion-related validity was of an acceptable standard (p<0.01). The above results showed that the questionnaire has high reliability and validity.2. The number of students with 15 scores of morita neurotic character was largest (n=46), which accounted for 10.13% of the whole. The rate of equal and greater than 15 was 24.89% (n=114). The scores of morita neurotic character in helping style (F=9.832, p<0.05) and fathers’ character (Z=-2.633, p<0.01) have significant difference, but other general demographic factors have no significant difference (p<0.05). 3. There was positively significant relationship between the scores of morita character and EPQ-N, P (r=0.598 or r=0.174,p<0.01 or p<0.05), but negatively related to EPQ-E (r=-0.279, p<0.01). The scores of morita character has marked differences in different types of personality (F=27.769,p<0.01).4. There was positively significant correlations between morita character and general symptomatic sum, nine factors of SCL-90 (r=0.448~0.672, p<0.01). Comparing with the only-child with non mental health problems, individuals with mental problems have higher scores in morita character, EPQ-P, N (t= -10.207, -3.245, -8.008, p<0.01), lower in EPQ-E,and there has significant differences (t=2.195, p<0.05).Conclusions:The“morita neurotic character questionnaire”has good reliability and validity. The scores of morita character were closely related to EPQ and SCL-90. In this study, the number of students with morita character was large, which suggested that psychology experts and social related departments should pay close attention to college students’ personality healthy development. This questionnaire has predictive value and guidance on college students’ mental health education and consultation, and it provides a relatively accurate psychological evaluation tool for theory research and clinical practice of morita therapy.
