E-C autoweb news trans-editing serves to bridge the information divide betweendomestic auto news readers and the global auto market. This study aims to proposeapplicable principles and strategies for E-C autoweb news trans-editing with bothqualitative and quantitative approaches. A satisfaction survey on trans-edited autowebnews is conducted to find out the expectations of Chinese readers and the reasons whytrans-edited autoweb news let them down. Errors prevalent in trans-edited autowebnews are analyzed with the support of an appeal survey and exemplified by a corpus of200trans-edited parallel autoweb news reports. In addition,80texts from the top10Chinese and the top10English auto websites are studied to clear up the classification, functions, and features of autoweb news. Research results show that domestic readersare far from being satisfied with trans-edited news in China’s auto web. The reasonsare rooted in either trans-editors’ ignorance of or over-emphasis on readers’ four socialpsychological tendencies; namely, conformity, curiosity, leisure, and familiarity, which results in errors in topic selection, headline creation, information screening, language polishing, and structure adjustment. On the basis of the study, threeprinciples and four strategies are put forward from the perspective of socialpsychology to optimize E-C autoweb news trans-editing.
