Trans-editing, a combination of editing and translating, has been widely adopted in translation practices. This report is based on the English-Chinese Trans-editing project of chinathinktanks.org.cn from November,2015 to March,2016, which the author took part in as an intern. This report is focused on the trans-edition of 14 articles, which translated into about 12,000 characters. By reviewing and analyzing the process of the project as well as representative samples of translation, this report discusses the specific ways of selecting and deleting information, the appropriate translation techniques and the readers’needs, which should be considered in trans-editing.In terms of selection and deletion of information, the report puts forward two questions that a translator should consider:Is the information important? Is it difficult for readers to understand translations if the information is deleted? Specifically, a translator can select and delete information with reference to titles/subheadings, topic sentences and logic relationship. In addition, this report proposes that the appropriate translation techniques adopted in trans-editing are summarization, combination, restructuring and addition. Finally, the report points out that translators should take readers’needs into account in trans-editing. The report believes that translators should seek balance between the demand of clients, authors of source texts and readers of targeted texts during the process of trans-editing.As this report offers specific strategies of trans-editing, the author hopes that it can provide some suggestions to other translators who deal with the practice of trans-editing.
