Strictly speaking, Chinese shows the lack of morphological variation. A lot ofgrammatical meanings are expressed by the function words. Preposition, which equalsto a function word is an important category in the speech system of Chinese grammar. Itdoesn’t have the lexical meaning but the grammatical meaning, whose main functionsare cited in an introductive way. As a function word, preposition becomes particularlyimportant for overseas students in the process of Chinese learning. The reason why it ishard for overseas students to learn prepositions is that the meanings and usage ofprepositions are both connected and distinguished. Many overseas students, especiallythose from Korea, have higher error rate in prepositions learning. Prepositions related inthe paper are “对、向、给”, whose error rates are the highest among overseas students.The article thoroughly discussed the three typical prepositions from the aspects of theirbasic meaning and error, so that overseas students can grasp better about these threenear-synonyms prepositions.This thesis analyzes these three words’ error of types and reasons in the process ofteaching Chinese as a second language. Each error type has been reclassified andanalyzed from the aspect of mixed usage with other words. The article also explored thesource of problems and put forward teaching strategies that are worth being utilized tohelp teachers take precautions again errors and improve the quality of teaching.
