Busy to take notes yet ending up losing important information in consecutiveoutput is the most common problem among interpreting students. Daniel Gile’s“Effort Model of consecutive interpreting” and Rozan’s “Seven Steps of Note-takingin consecutive interpretation” provide a theoretical basis to the solution. While Gile’sEffort Model serves as the overall framework of solution, Rozan’s “Seven Steps” fitperfectly into it by making it more operational and simple to follow. The thesis appliesthis theoretical basis to the analysis of two case studies, i.e. interpretation of “theImpact of the International Financial Crisis” and “China’s diplomacy” from English toChinese, then Chinese to English respectively in GIIT Students’ mock conferencesetting, to illustrate the operational values of this framework. Insights are gainedthrough in-depth analysis of the consecutive output, thus shedding lights on futureinterpretation exercise and practice.
