Nowadays, the social division of labor has become increasingly sophisticated, so hasthe classification of translation. Since translation has involved in more and more fields, itbecame difficult and has its own uniqueness and professionalism that should not beignored. As a result, requirements for translation are improving. The requirement foroperation manual translation is very strict. It requires precise content, concise andprofessional wording, and the correct use of professional terminology. Therefore, thisrequires that the translators have both profound language skills and good understanding ofthe categories of translation. The translators also have to understand the relevant workingprinciples and keep an eye on latest information.This report mainly discusses the translation of a boiler operation manual. It falls intothree parts. Part1is Task Description, Part2is Process Description and part3is CaseAnalysis. This report mainly focuses on how the author applied skopos theory intranslating this document and various methods used in the translation process under thetheoretical framework of skopos theory. These translation methods consist of literaltranslation, abbreviation, nominalization and so on. In each part, some examples are givenfor analysis.Hope this report can be a reference for technical manual translation, the translation ofboiler manual in particular.
