This report is based on the author’s translation practice of China (DK Eyewitness Travelguides), a detailed practical travel guidebook. There are four parts in the report, which mainlydescribe the translation project, difficulties the author encountered in the text translation, andthe process of solving the problems.Under this project, a group of10students are appointed as translators. Xu Bin is incharge of the management of the translation project. In order to streamline the process of theproject and improve the efficiency of translation work, CAT (Computer Aided Translation)technique and tools have been applied in the program, which have proved that profoundunderstanding and proper use of information technology could successfully save translators’time and energy. There are two major difficulties in text translation of this project—backtranslation and errors in the source text. The report provides several pieces of advice incoping with the problems. Translators should be proficient at Chinese and English, and moresensitive to the way in using their own language. Wide knowledge scope and cultureawareness is essential for translators. They should also have the capacity of skillfully usinginternet search engines, and other reliable reference materials. Translator’s commitment andprofessional spirits also influence the quality of the translation work. |
